Kimberly Atkins of The Boston Herald wrote a opt-ed column today about GOP candidate and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. She wanted him to show some passion while campaigning in Michigan. In her piece, Atkins mentioned the first time she met Romney when he was the governor of Massachusetts and she was a State House reporter for the newspaper. She happens to be a native of Detroit, Michigan. When Romney learned about this, he put on his phony Michigan native act because his father, George Romney, was a governor of Michigan for six terms while he was growing up.
Atkins pointed out that Mitt Romney comes across as a phony and recalled the one time he showed some passion while he was the Massachusetts governor. It was right after a woman was killed in one of the Big Dig tunnels by a large piece of slate that fell from its ceiling. Romney confronted the then-Mass Pike boss and yelled at him. Atkins believes that Romney’s passion from that day is sorely needed now if he wants to win the GOP nomination.
I have to admit that this is always been my problem with Mitt too. He just doesn’t show any passion at all and comes across like a plastic manikin.
